These basic functions of government established by our Constitution are being threatened by the reality of our leviathan Federal government in spite of honest efforts by Americans like Elon Musk. The DOGE cuts we’ve seen so far are miniscule compared to what we will find if we keep going. But can we get the existing cuts through Congress and if those are a problem what will happen when we get to the really big programs like Social Security, and welfare programs that sign up millions of people, or the healthcare programs that do the same while driving costs up and quality down? All of this being attempted in the context of the big, beautiful bill, that as passed by the House is likely ti generate over $10 trillion in more debt over the next ten years and don’t even get me started on defense department cuts and emerging major challenges with artificial intelligence! My guest today is Charles Sauer, who was just named in the Washingtonian as one of the 500 most influential people shaping public policy. Charles is the president of the Market Institute and has previously worked on Capitol Hill, for a governor, and for an academic think tank.
